27 Jan 2006 - The Exxon Valdez Game

ONES: 1st: H, 2nd: DT, 3rd: Generalissimo, SS: Rube, LF: The Mick, CF: Cheetah

TWOS: 1st: Handsomest Man in Singapore, 2nd: Horfun, 3rd: DT, SS: New John, LF: Rugburn; CF: Sandman

Game 1: ONES 9: TWOS: 6

The gods must be lauging at us. The weather was looking good all day, and out of the blue at 2.30, it decides to open up. Not a thunderstorm mind you, but a slow, drip drip drip of rain. Too wet to play, not wet enough to call it a day. Since it was Rube's wedding day and Generalissimo's last day, we said 'fuck it' and played anyway. With short numbers (only 11), DT played defense for both teams, and we shut down right field.

The game went on as normal with good defense from both infields. The ball rarely went into the outfield due to the wet conditions and the really oily, mud-splattered ball. The space behind the batter's box was covered in mud and oil and each catcher could've probably made some money off the stuff caught in his cleats.

Rube had the worst game in his entire career. His glove didn't work and neither did his bat. He actually hit a swinging bunt. Of course, if one were to ask 'How much worse could his day get?', well, he was getting married after the game...

H, Sandman and Cheetah hit righty. H was making good contact, but her line drives ended up in DT's glove. Cheetah showed that he has more power hitting right, but had better accuracy hitting left. Sandman is definitely not a right handed hitter.

The ONEs took the early lead with some aggressive and creative running. The Mick showed he has old-school spirit by sliding into bases and getting himself awfully dirty. The TWOs almost caught back, and the score was 5-4 for several innings before the ONEs ran away with a couple of back to back runs. Overall a lovely, wet, dirty game.

We desperately need the numbers. The Generalissimo has left for a couple of months and with the non-confirmation of Cheetah and the handsomest man in singapore, we only have about 8 regulars on the field. We also need some serious recruiting to make up for the numbers. We've lost more than we've gained over the last two years and it has hurt us real bad. So if you know anyone or think they might be interested, get them to come on out. 2.30pm at the field.

On to Next Week.
MBP: All 11 for showing up
DY award: All 11 for playing in the rain
Gold Glove: Generalissimo
