18 February 2006 - New Field

Nice turnout. We had full teams, but only managed to play 2 innings before the rain came. The most important announcement is that there is a NEW FIELD. Since "ball games" are not allowed at West Coast, the new alternative if we aren't at NUS is the field between the new NUS high school and Commonwealth. It is on Clementi Rd, and opposite Rube's place (you can park at Rube's). It is a huge field, a bit bumpy, but as we explore it we should find a fine place to play. But, meet at NUS first. That's always our first choice.

On to the game. The only two interesting plays were: 1) Heidi made a really nice grab in foul territory; 2) Rube had an infield homer. He hit it at Diana (who was playing 2B). She was perfectly positioned to field it, but the ball hit a bump and shot 2 meters over her head. Since the outfielders were so far back (for a Rube boomer), DT ran into right-center ran to get the ball, as Rube chugged his way around the bases for the play-of-the-day.

Other Notes: Nice to see Andy back. Our own Kenny Loggins had been away composing his own "yacht rock" with the Kitty in Cambodia.

In light of the huge unpredictable bounces, I think we should be playing 'arena baseball'. However this could equalize the fielding abilities for those 'mobility challenged'
