17 September 2005 - Showdown in CF

ONES: 1B: Nigey-pooh/Rube; 2B: Soo-ey; 3B: Jesson; OF: Gunz, Rube/Nigey-pooh, The Cheetah
TWOS: 1B: Spider; 2B: Monk; 3B: Rickey; OF: Weixiong, Cool Papa, Heidi
All Time SS: Nomar

Game 1 and only (12 innings):
ONES: 14
TWOS: 12

What a game... We started a little late, and in fear that there would be no bats (since among the no shows were Indiana, the Jaguar and "Tony Montana" [the new nickname for DT. He can no longer use DT. No one gets to pick their nickname at SAS. Due to the unneccesary f-bombs he uses, he is now "Tony Montana". It was either that or INAM, short for "In Need of Anger Management"). Thankfully, the NTU crew showed up with a bat. But, oh what a bat...

It was a beautiful sunny day. Ideal. Most of the field was being used by an NUS Centennial Fair, so we played in the far corner. The game was a see-saw affair, with big bats, big plays, and big smiles on the faces of all. The TWOS tied the game in the top of the 9th on - hold your breath - a Rickey homer. The score was then 10-10. Each team scored one in the 10th, was scoreless in the 11th, and then the TWOS scored one for the win, so they thought, in the 12th. With two outs and two on, Gunz hit an amazing homer to right-center for the win. It went amongst the various Fair tents and scared workers, but it would have been a homer any day. We didn't want to ruin it all with a 2nd game, so a group went to Coach's Corner.

NOTES:
- Nomar is back. He may have gone to Yankee Stadium and Fenway Park to watch games, but he must have gotten training in somewhere. He was making amazing plays, even backing up Rickey on a few flubs. He turned 2 double plays on his own.
- Rube hit a homer, and we couldn't find the ball. It was such a monster, he pulled something (insert joke here) and had to play 1B the rest of the day.
- Heidi was hitting opposite field. The game from last week must have stuck. She got on base every time at bat.
- Defensive play of all time. The play you've been waiting for. The showdown: Gunz v. Cool Papa. The Papa hit a long shot to CF and took off. Gunz had to run down the ball; he reaches it as Cool Papa is approaching 3B; Gunz fires it like a bullet past Nomar and it one hops to Monk at the plate who puts the tag on a sliding Cool Papa. The Rifleman shoots him down...

MBP: Gunz
Gold Glove: Nomar
Best Bat: Heidi
Biggest Bat: Rube
Play of the Day: Gunz, the Rifleman
DY: Monk
