12 August 2006 - Epic Games

TWOS:
1st: Heidi/Seven, 2nd: Burma Girl, 3rd: Generalissimo(traded)/Rube, SS: DT, OF: The Mick, Jeremy, Jason, Seven/Heidi

Game 1: ONES 8 : TWOS 23 (7 innings mercy)
Game 2: ONES 5 : TWOS 10 (5 innings)

It was an Epic day. The numbers were (for a non-BBQ day in 2006) Epic. The Heat was Epic. The population on the field (including frisbess idiots, soccer players and cricket monkeys) was Epic. The Skill level of play was Epic. The Bats were Epic. It was an Epic day.

DT did the counting since Rickey was off galavanting (sniffing the remnents of LKY's bum on his chair at the Parliment house). The teams looked fairly even, considering that the ONEs had SuperDad, but with the slight overcompensation, the ONEs lacked a proper infield after the 1st inning. With the arrival of the Generalissimo, DT and Indiana conferred to trade the Generalissimo for Seven, to try and even up the defensive gaps. Strangely enough, the ONEs took an early one-run lead in the first inning, and gave up four runs in the second inning after the trade.

With the TWOs wise to the ways of Superdad, his formidable strength was soon stifled by both the Mick and Jeremy. Standing deeper than necessary in the outfield, they managed to catch everything Superdad hit and they proved to be his kryptonite. Superdad did not score. The TWOS however, managed to string together some hits. Their defense held as well, and the ONEs only managed to score 2 runs to their 9 in 5 innings. The game blew wide open in the bottom of the 5th when the ONEs suddenly got their bats going. They scored 6 unanswered runs to pull the difference back to 1 run.

The scores remain unchanged for another two innings when the cricket monkeys came on the field and turned it all around. With the Indiana playing RF and the Generalissimo in CF (Cool Papa lost his cool and nearly stomped off the field because of the cricket monkeys getting in his way), the strong opposite field hitting of the TWOs lineup soon took their toll. The TWOs started putting together hit after hit after hit, culminating with a booming opposite field hit over Indiana's head. He could not be blamed though, because the cricket monkeys were camped in his defensive line, and he could not play any deeper because they were blocking his way. The TWOs however, had no such handicap at bat as they were sending ball after ball trying to hit and permanently maim a cricket monkey. The top of the 7th did not end well for the ONEs. The TWOs had scored 11 runs in that inning, and took an insurmountable 15 run lead. The game ended with Mercy as the TWOs gloves did all the talking to close down the ONEs bats.

Game 2 started off with a significant switch to the diamond. Instead of competing with the cricket monkeys and letting them ruin our day, we moved the diamond about 50 degrees to the left. This freed up centerfield, and only right field was now occupied by the monkeys. The rules also were changed to all right field fly balls called a foul, effectively shutting down right field. Line-drives and bouncing grounders still counted, as there was still a right fielder, albeit playing much shallower than normal.

Having won the first game through mercy, the TWOs were hungry for the sweep. They managed to score in every inning in the second game to yank a 10-5 victory away from the ONEs. Even with the fancy infield glovework of Cool Papa, and the speed of the Generalissimo in the outfield, the TWOs freight train could not be stopped.

Highlights
There were 3 DPs on the day. DT had an assisted 6-3 DP, Jason had a 9-6 DP off Clement who did not tag up, and Cool Papa had another 6-3 DP. '
Before the cricket monkeys showed up, the ONEs outfield was unstoppable. Cool Papa caught out Rube, Indiana caught out The Mick. No one wanted to hit to Superdad.
Cool Papa has some infield skills, but he looked uncomfortable playing short and he forgot to cover the bases.
Clement was unstoppable in the field. His glove was a ball magnet. He caught everything that was hit near or to him, dropping nothing.
The Swissmiss is a better 3rd baseman than a catcher. I'm amazed how he can drop the simplest of plays at catcher, but catch and field the hardest hit balls at 3rd. Damned Strange.
Indiana threw his glove. A memorable occasion as no one has ever seen him angry before. Damned cricket monkeys.
Seven is the NEW monk. He gave the Irish a double by watching her run instead of catching the ball. Luckily the ball did not roll after it landed, or he would have given her a HR instead.
Cool Papa showed his affections for Heidi. Giving her a black eye. 40-ounce, wife-beater and joint not included.
Heidi sat out 5 innings while nursing her black eye.
Jeremy is Superdad's Kryptonite. He even caught one of Superdad's deep flyballs while falling over.
Horfun was hitting deep. Only the Mick could catch her hits.
Rube tried valiantly to hit a cricket monkey. Close, but no cigar.
DT and Rube are combining to be a pretty good infield team. Much better than arod and jeter.

MBP: The Mick
Gold Glove: Clement
Biggest Bat: Rube
DY: Jeremy
