19 November 2005 - 61

ONES: C: Guppy; 1B: John; 2B: Diana; 3B: Gil the Gazelle; SS: DT; OF: Say Hey Kid; Gunz, The Cheetah; Rover: Jason
TWOS: C: Rickey/Monk; 1B: Heidi/Rube; 2B: Burma Girl; 3B: Rickey/Leo; SS: Nomar; OF: Prof. Zen, Sandman, Rube/Heidi; Rover: Monk/Rickey/Leo

Game One: (10 Innings)
ONES: 29
TWOS: 32

Just look at that score. That says it all: 61 runs scored. This was a game for the ages, one of the all-time classic Saturday Softball Games. Everyone (except maybe the outfielders) had a great time, and didn't want the game to end. All can be attributed (or blamed) to the ball DT brought. It was a baseball-sized rubber softball. It made catching the ball hard - it kept falling out - since we have big gloves for that little ball (a bit of the "Enrique" factor discussed at Joe's and over dinner). The outfields had to go waaaaay out there to guard against long balls so there were a lot of pops in-between. Throughout the game both teams would surge ahead, just to be caught the next inning. If we had played another inning I have no doubt the TWOS would have gone ahead. It was just a see-saw game. By the time it was over, everyone was too tired - and thrilled - to play a second game.

NOTES:
1) Diana knows her small-ball. She scored at least two runs on advancing from base-to-base on sacrifices; 2) Prof. Zen and the Sandman communicated all day with "go back..."; 3) John opened up play with the first real smack; 4) DT shut down a bases-loaded rally with a Jordan-esque leap to nab a hard Rickey line-drive; 5) The Cheetah was back with his classic slides; 6) Rickey - under the taunting of Guppy - ties the game with a two-rbi double in the top of the 9th. Rickey, however, tries to make it a triple and gets nailed on a Gunz-DT-Gil put-out.

MBP: The ball
Biggest Bat: Anyone who swang
Best Bat: Anyone who swang
Smartest base running: Diana
Dumbest base running: Rickey (twice got caught going from 2B to 3B)
Drama Mama: Prof Zen - Caught a ball and then had it pop out when he went to grab it for the throw in.

PS: The week before we played "double-or-nothing". Normal game, but the ball was warped, so it would float all over the place when hit or thrown.
