5 Jan 2008 - First game of 2008

Ones: Rickey, NewJohn, Mick, H, Wild Thang, Charlton, Horfun, DT
TWOs: Ghost runners

First weekend of 2008 was a failure. Just not enough people showed up. We couldn't even muster a 10 man crew to get in a modified rules game. Such a waste.
On to next week.

Gaddafi says hello...

Dean Hooker was the man who made the greatest defensive play in Saturdaysoftball Tournament History. The year was 2001 and we were playing in the Inter-Faculty Softball Finals. The score was tied at the top of the 9th with runners on base. The batter hit a hard ground ball up the 3rd base line. Dean grabbed it barehanded and fired a rocket to 1st to end the inning. Least you say it was a pretty standard play, it wasn't. Even the Generalissimo would've had to had used his glove, so hard was the ball hit, and he made the play smoother than Arod.
Anyway, Dean was posted out of the country (He works for the State Dept) soon after the tournament. We just received an email from him from Libya with the above picture.

Hello Guys
I was one of your periodicals on Saturday during the years 1999 to 2001. The blog is great I feel honored to be included. Wishing all of you a great Christmas and a Prosperous New Year and Chinese New Year too.
I'm currently in Tripoli, Libya. I hope one day to get back to Singapore and play a couple of games. Included a picture of myself in the Libyan desert.

Remember his name. Oscar Bazylewich. Soon-to-be male supermodel and starting pitcher for the Yoshimura Giants.

The 'Hand' of Creepy Rickey

Mushrooms? We don't eat no stinking mushrooms... Bring on the meat!

Bulgogi Beef Rib.....mmmmmmm

I don't know what this is, but I hear it's the stuff that comes with your steak that you push to the side of your plate.

More Beef...

PORRRKKKKKK.....

Next Generation of SAS. Starting them throwing balls early. Though, it looks like all 3 are lefties. So infield positions are still up for grabs.

Martin and Oscar

After dinner, Guppy invited us all to his place for drinks and a little 'exercise'. Yup, Guppy bought a wii.

Hello? Hello? The wii controller is not a toy...

Greed

The title says it all. This blog should not be an avenue for my personal ranting, but this is baseball related. Those who know what I'm talking about will know what I'm talking about. Greed. Greedy greedy bastard. May the first pitch of 2008 hit you in the skull. May the Redsox purchase your contract and not win again for 85 years.

Day of Mourning

Please join me in a moment of silence to mourn the loss of the Rockies. They fought the brave fight. They were the underdogs. They were the little known franchise that only been in existence for 14 years. They were young and impetuous and exuded the never-say-die spirit of the early Cowboys that tamed the wild west. They were mowed down mercilessly by the juggernaut that is the Boston Redsox. Did the Redsox deserve the victory in 2004? Yes, they did. Did they deserve the victory in 2007? No. The young upstart Rockies should have won it all. Sadly they didn't.
